Lacie: Born on the island Patch off the coast of Vale, the girl known as Yang Xiao Long was born from Huntress and Huntsmen parents - Taiyang Xiao Long, and a mother unknown who died after Yang was born.

Dan: Taiyang then met up with his Huntress friend Summer Rose and produced the hero Ruby Rose. And then Summer died.
Insanus: What is it with everyone's mom dying in fiction? Why can't it ever be someone's second cousin?

Lacie: After seeing Summer in action, Yang decided to become a Huntress - a hunter of Grimm.

Dan: At their most basic? Titans, except smaller and bear-like. And slice people instead of killing them. Because Aura.

Lacie: Aura is the manifestation of one's soul. It protects the user, manifesting a forcefield that protects the user from attacks. It also augments strength, weapon capability, speed, and coordination to superhuman levels. This is how RWBY can have such incredible action scenes.

Lacie: Ember Celica is Yang's custom-mad weapon. Duel-wielded gauntlets, Ember Celica increases the striking strength of her blows and can fire shotgun-like rounds from a hidden barrel.

Abe: Wouldn't that be kind of impractical? It ought to be really heavy to hold a firing mechanism needed to fight rounds like that and the recoil should be pretty massive considering the size of the gauntlets.

Insanus: Who the hell cares? Rule of Cool.

Dan: The gauntlets are far different than human guns; they rely on Dust cartridges, which are composed of a rare mineral, crystal, you name it called Dust. When activated by a user's Aura, Dust is a powerful energy propellant. Even a single vial of Dust can create sizable explosions.

Lacie: Oh, and recoil? Yeah, her fighting style revolves around using the recoil from blows to augment her own speed. Basically a mini-rocket jump.

Abe: I'll give credit, turning what would normally be a hindrance into an asset is a very good thing here.

Dan: In addition, Yang carries explosive ammo. When applied to Ember Celica, it acts like incendiary or high explosive ammo on meth and creates explosions where it hits. These increase her punching strength.

Lacie: She also fucked a cat.

Dan: ..well, alright.. partially true. Yang's partner is Blake Belladonna, a former White Fang terrorist.. and yes, a cat faunus. Their ship name is Bumblebee, the same name as Yang's motorcycle.

Dan: Unfortunately, Yang has a limit on what power she can expel. Too much damage and she'll be out. The creators of the show have likened her to a Blood Knight - sacrificing her own health for physical strength.

Lacie: And yet a giant-ass mech doesn't do it. Volume 3.. one day..

Abe: Jonathan was born to the illustrious Joestar family and had a childhood of riches and luxury. But in spite of his spoiled upbringing, Jonathan held onto a code of chivalry and honor to protect the innocent and his loved ones.

Lacie: What a cool guy. I bet karma's gonna make sure nothing bad happens to him.

Insanus: Oh it does. In the form of DAVID BOWIE!

Abe: Several years before, Jonathan's father was "saved" from a carriage accident that took the life of his wife by Dario Brando, a local criminal who was merely passing through to steal from his body. Indebted to his mistaken savior, George Joestar adopted his son, Dio Brando-

Insanus: Yes, that's his name.

Lacie: I bet they're gonna have great bizarre adventures together!

Abe: As I was saying, he adopted Dio into his family shortly after Dario's death. What Mr. Joestar did not know was that Dio grew up in an abusive household and came to believe that power mattered over all else. Wanting to ensure he could gain his adopted family's power, Dio came to see his adopted brother as but an obstacle in his way.

Insanus: Dio here showed up Johnathan and made him look bad in front of Daddy while making himself look like the good son. And then there's well...

Abe: Essentially, Dio beat up Jonathan in an amateur boxing match with illegal moves, stole the first kiss of his girlfriend and hit her, kicked his pet dog when he first saw him, and after Jonathan rightfully beat him hard enough to force him to tears, burned his dog in a furnace.

Lacie: Wow. What a shitlord. What an absolute dicklord.

Dan: You know, all things considered, George is some kind of Atticus Finch guy if he lets Dio anywhere near Jonathan.
Insanus: Dio was a wolf in sheep's clothing that only Johnny here could see through.

Dan: Genius in the face of a fool. Hate him even more know.

Abe: Eventually in their young adulthood, George grew mysteriously ill and through investigations, Jonathan discovered that Dio had in fact been poisoning his father. Venturing into the slums of London to find the antidote, Jonathan had a brief fight with the honorable bandit Robert E.O. Speedwagon-

Insanus: You can expect a lot of music references in this series, trust me.

Dan: Robert E.O... ah, of course. I've had mighty fine adventures with my friend Zeppelin.

Insanus: Heh heh...spoilers...

Abe: Shortly after, Speedwagon became undyingly loyal to Jonathan and aided him to find the antidote, cure his father, and have the police arrest Dio, finally putting an end to...

Insanus: LOL NOPE, tell 'em!

Abe: ...Right. As it would turn out, George owned a mysterious Stone Mask that Jonathan researched on for its origins for years before Dio himself discovered it. What he thought was a murder device activated by blood turned out to be a device to create vampires.

Lacie: And the bullets reflected off his diamond-hard skin, no?

Abe: Well yes. Cornered, Dio decided to forsake his humanity and become a vampire, using the blood of his adopted father. After a brutal battle within their burning home, Jonathan narrowly escaped with his life. But then a new ally came to help...
Insanus: It's your old buddy Zepellin!

Dan: Seriously? Next thing you know you'll have someone flat called AC/DC.

Insanus: Hehe...

Abe: Anyway, William A. Zepelli arrived to search for the Stone Mask and destroy it, as well as to defeat Dio, who had escaped and created an army of undead servants. Admiring Jonathan's determination, Zepelli took him under his wing and taught him the techniques needed to defeat Dio.

Insanus: Thus began the start of many bizarre adventures in 'Phantom Blood', or Fist of the Dracula Star!

Dan: Turning one guy being an asshole into a universe-ending insanity fest since 1987!

Abe: Now onto his physicality and abilties, Jonathan is without a doubt, an athlete in  every sense.

Insanus: I know! Look at those pecs and abs! The Rock's got nothing on him!

Lacie: ...hhahahhaahaha...

Dan: Same thing she did with Ken! I don't know what's with her. Greek god he is, sure...

Abe: Er, yes. Prior to his training, Jonathan's strength was even then monstrous. He could knock out grown men with ease with a few blows, could still move forward with four grown men weighing him down, flip himself over a bannister with one arm, and fight on par with vampires. After it...

Insanus: After it, the guy just became Kenshiro of England. Zombies? He could swat them down like flies. Vampires? Trickier, but he could fight them blow for blow. Hell, he was so strong, he outmatched Tarkus, a zombie whose punches alone could shatter cliffs!

Dan: Calculated at 3.5 to 19 tons of TNT! And he shredded him. Jonathan even duked it out with the vampirized Dio.

Insanus: HE HARNESSES THE POWER OF THE SUN!

Abe: It's a bit more complex than that. You see, Zepelli trained Jonathan in the art of Ripple, also called Hamon or Sendo. Created by humans at the dawn of their existence, this ability was created for the purpose of combating and killing zombies, vampires, and the later villains the Pillar Men.

Insanus: Not everyone can do this. You have to be born with the power to use Ripple and it's so rare, only one in every 10,000 can actually be born with the power of Ripple. Good thing Johnny was one of the lucky ones.

Dan: Yeah, imagine he's the only one not eligible.

Lacie: Like 'fuck, I need to go kick Dio's ass' and Dio's just like 'surprise bitch, sun+vampire'.

Dan: Not how it works. Jonathan's not just lucky, he's very good at Ripple.

Abe: Through intense breathing training, Joanthan attained and soon mastered Ripple. By passing sunlight through his body and the 'ripples' within his bloodstream, Jonathan gained the ability to mimick sunlight and channel it through his body and items, creating a versatile fighting style.

Insanus: Considering all he had before was knowing boxing and rugby, I'd say this is a step up.

Abe: In the weapons department, Jonathan carried a broadsword, Pluck and Luck, given to him by the undead knight Bruford upon his passing to which Jonathan used a few times, but with expert skill.

Abe: Very well. Using Ripple, Jonathan learned and developed several techniques for battle. One of which was Zoom Punch, where he stretches the muscles in his arm to extend it Luffy-style so that he may punch an opponent from a distance.

Dan: Fun fact, in the process, he breaks his joints. The Ripple eases the pain.

Insanus: Shiiiiet.

Abe: He can also channel Ripple through walls or floor, traveling the energy down to strike an opponent, deliver high powered jabs of solar energy, improve his balance so that he can walk on solid objects like water or spikes, increase his physicality so that he may fight the undead on equal ground with them, increase the potency of objects such as turning his sword into a chainsaw essetially to cut vampires, and even heal himself.

Insanus: Ripple really works best with metal, like Jonathan's sword, or water, like when he created high powered tempests while in a lake so powerful that the lake was half drained. But stone and fire are a gray line that can work slightly. He can channel it through stone walls and floor or even wrap his fist around fire to literally wear it around his hand like a glove!

Abe: But nothing matches to Jonathan's greatest technique...

Lacie: Using his Stand Star Platinum...

Insanus: Wrong Joestar.

Lacie: Ah. Using his Stand Crazy Diamond...

Insanus: Still the wrong one.

Lacie: Using his Stand Tusk-

Insanus: Seriously?

Abe: In a truly grandiose display, Jonathan launches a barrage of extremely rapid punches powered with so much Ripple, that it is said to be comparable to the power of the Sun itself.

Insanus: Praise the sun, bitches.

Dan: The energy from the sun..? Oh, my. That's.. pretty strong.

Lacie: Fucked up Bruford well enough! Praise that sun indeed. Plus, Ripple works like a healing factor, repairing wounds and nullifying pain.

Abe: It goes further with even being able to expel poisons.

Lacie: Yes, because martial arts translate into.. poision ejection. Ever hear of that one lizard that shoots blood from its eyes? That's what I'm getting from this.

Abe: But that being said, Jonathan is anything but perfect. And no, I'm not talking about his body.

Lacie: That body is perfect.

Dan: Jonathan.. doesn't exactly have the best ending to his story.

Insanus: Jonathan is a bit naive and kinda trusting of others too much unless they show their true colors. Not to mention he holds back his power unless it's absolutely necessary.

Madness: Case in point, Speedwagon noted his kick alone could have killed him, but yet he held back.

Lacie: He held back on a guy who was trying to kill him based on an assumption of what he said, once.

Insanus: Eh, whatever.

Abe: But Jonathan's greatest issue lies with Ripple. Due to its reliance on his breathing and bloodstream, he must take great care in maintaining that those aspects still function. Damages to his lungs or ribs would greatly hinder him, as would blood loss. Similarily, Dio developed the ability to freeze his own bloodstream and causing a pseudo-cryokinesis power that allowed him to counter Ripple this way, meaning excessive cold also is a risk.

Lacie: Luckily for him, Yang doesn't exactly fight that way.

Dan: Finally, even Zeppeli admitted there's a flaw with Ripple - the way he was taught, it's not meant for destruction. Johnathan's strong, but he's mortal.

Abe: And in spite of his inevitable death at the end of the series, Jonathan ensured that his wife and unborn child lived and still found it in his heart to forgive and accept Dio as his brother, in spite of all he did. Such kindness finally allowed Dio to see him as a worthy opponent and his brother.

Insanus: Jonathan had to be a real saint to forgive a dickweed like Dio.

Lacie: By real saint, ya mean J.C. Himself! Forgives a guy who killed his father and killed his dog. What a beautiful sonuvabitch, look a' 'em muscles.. the personality.. can you have male waifus? Jonathan's a great guy.

Abe: But in spite of this, Jonathan still prevailed in the end. Not only did he become the Victorian Era's undead slaying Kenshiro and defeated Dio, he managed all this while under great difficulty and against overwhelming odds, pulling through with his will and determination alone. Even in death, his legacy continued on with his family, all of whom became the most badass family bloodline in anime and manga. Whereas Dio Brando is responsible for every single terrible event that befell the series, Jonathan is responsible for all the good his family did, up and to saving the entire universe.
